# Open Banking in Switzerland: How bLink Works (And Why It Matters)

**Quick answer:** A clear explainer of Swiss open banking via bLink — how it works, which banks are connected, what data is shared, and why it's the foundation of every modern Swiss finance app.

Open banking changed Europe in 2018 with PSD2. Switzerland took a different path — building **bLink**, an opt-in marketplace operated by SIX, the same group that runs the Swiss stock exchange.

## What is bLink?

bLink is Switzerland's open banking platform. Banks expose APIs through it; licensed third parties (like personal finance apps, accounting tools, and tax software) can read account data — only with the user's explicit consent.

## Which Swiss banks are connected?

  - **UBS**

  - **ZKB (Zürcher Kantonalbank)**

  - **PostFinance**

  - **Raiffeisen**

  - **BCV, BCGE, BEKB │ BCBE** and other Kantonalbanken

  - **Migros Bank**

  - **Hypothekarbank Lenzburg**

  - And a growing list of digital and private banks

## What data is shared?

  - Account balances

  - Transaction history

  - Investment positions (when supported by the bank)

What is **never** shared: your e-banking password. What is never possible without a separate, more privileged consent: **initiating payments**. Read-only by design.

## How a connection actually works

  - You choose a third-party app (e.g. Finch).

  - The app redirects you to bLink, which redirects you to your bank's e-banking login.

  - You authenticate with your usual credentials and 2FA.

  - Your bank shows you exactly which data the app is requesting.

  - You approve. A read-only consent token is issued. The app can now refresh your data.

## Why it matters

Without bLink, every Swiss personal finance app is forced to either screen-scrape (fragile and a security risk) or fall back to manual CSV imports. With bLink, modern apps like **Finch** can deliver the kind of unified, real-time finance experience that UK and US users have had for years — but with stricter Swiss privacy standards (FADP) on top.

## How to manage your consents

You can revoke any bLink consent at any time, directly inside your bank's e-banking under "Open Banking" or "bLink consents". Apps can also revoke their side from their settings. [Learn how Finch uses bLink](/).
