Steuerauszug (tax statement)

Definition

A Steuerauszug is the annual tax statement issued by a Swiss bank or broker. It lists year-end balances, securities holdings, interest and dividends in the format Swiss tax authorities expect, so the figures can be copied directly into a tax return.

In detail

Banks usually publish the statement in the first months of the year for the previous tax period. Some issue it free of charge, others charge a fee, and brokers may provide only a simplified version.

If you hold accounts at several institutions you need a statement from each. Consolidating them — or exporting a combined year-end overview — is what makes the annual filing manageable.

  • Covers year-end balances, holdings, interest and dividends per institution.
  • Issued for the previous tax year, typically in the first quarter.
  • One statement is needed per bank or broker you hold assets with.
